North ranks Anna, Facebook higher on Trust. Nokia & Samsung – India’s top two in trust retain ranks in North

Delhi, India. 30th January, 2013. The results of the most anticipated brand study, The Brand Trust Report, India Study – 2013 are out and India has chosen its Most Trusted Brands. Nokia and Samsung, India’s two most trusted brands, retain their positions in the North. North Zone’s 3rd Most Trusted brand is Godrej, which has bettered it’s All India 6th rank. BMW maintains the same position in the North as in rest of India by taking up the position of the 4th Most Trusted Brand and Reliance gains two ranks from the national list to be the 5th Most Trusted Brand in North India. Tata loses one place in North and is at 6th, while Sony loses four ranks to be 7th Most Trusted Brand. Apple is also more trusted in the North at 8th rank than in rest of India where it ranks 12th. Bajaj and Airtel lose one rank each to be the 9th and 10th Most Trusted Brands in North Zone respectively.

Studying India’s 500 Most Trusted Brands’ movement in the North Zone is quite revealing. The brands which have over-performed the most in the North as compared to their All India ranks are VIP Bags (up 229 ranks), Reliance Foundation (up 196 ranks), Dhirubhai Ambani (up 182 ranks) and Windows (up 164 ranks). On the other hand, the brands that take the worst trust beating in the North as compared to All India ranks are Toyota Innova (down 1578 ranks), SetWet (down 825 ranks), Emirates (down 737 ranks), FILA (down 635 ranks) and Royal Stag (down 612 ranks).  Six brands were not even mentioned in any of the interviews in the North, namely, Accenture, 7 UP, Head & Shoulders, Airwick, Amaron and, surprisingly, Baba Ramdev.

N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory, launched the report and said, “Trust is the basis of all commerce, and Brand Trust is the only precise and scientific measure of this extremely important brand marker. Brand Trust is a universal and vital proxy for all the different experiences that a brand generates, making it possible for brands to accurately allocate resources and measure results. We all know India to be a mosaic of languages as well as cultures and the results of BTR 2013 ratifies this also showing that North India’s choices and thinking are quite different from the National average.”

The North and All India ranks show a large difference demonstrating that the North thinks quite differently from rest of India. Only 18 brands have north zone ranks that follow the national ranks within 10% rank variation, while 107 brands show a rank variance of over 90% when compared to national ranks.

In the All India ranks, the category leaders are as follows. After being ranked second two years in a row, Coca-Cola makes it as India’s Most Trusted Aerated Soft Drinks brand, albeit with only a 2% lead over the 2nd ranked Pepsi. Nano rides in as India’s Most Trusted four-wheeler car brand and among Consumer Products, Tide beats Surf Excel while Nirma surges ahead of Hindustan Unilever as the latter slips significantly.  HCC is India’s Most Trusted Infrastructure brand, DLF leads in Real Estate and, in education, IIT is more trusted than Oxford University and IIM. In F&B, Parle-G leads in biscuits and Cadbury’s DairyMilk is the Most Trusted Chocolate Bar among seven brands listed. World Health Organization leads in trust among Global Bodies followed by YMCA, UNICEF and Red Cross. Dabur, the Ayurveda leader, also leads the Healthcare Super Category of 36 brands. The mosquito repellent, AllOut, has been a leader three consecutive years and has noticeable lead of 120% over the next ranked, GoodKnight. The category of Internet has 25 brands this year and though Google leads Facebook this year also, it is only by a miniscule 3% margin.

Anna Hazare is the Most Trusted Personality in India, at 87 th rank this year, but in North, he is the 32nd Most Trusted Brand. Being Human, Salman Khan’s Foundation, however, maintains its rank as the Most Trusted NGO in India. Most brands in the Technology Category have gained trust ranks this year with Apple being listed as the Most Trusted Technology brand.  Indigo Airlines is this year’s Most Trusted Airline as Air India slips to second position.

Surprisingly, though there is a lot of variations in ranks in North as compared to All India, though many of Category leaders remain unchanged. The upsets in North among Category leaders are – Navneet overtakes Cello Pens as Most Trusted Stationary brand, Blue Dart overtakes DTDC and DHL in Courier Services, Big Bazaar overtakes KFC in Retail, Olay overtakes Lux in the Personalcare Category and Facebook beats Google to lead the Internet category. In Healthcare, though Dabur leads both North and All India, Moov and Crocin displace Himalaya and Iodex for 2nd and 3rd ranks. The Food & Beverage Category also sees similar inclination and Amul leads in both geographic comparisons, though in North, Britannia ranks 2nd and Coca-Cola 3rd, taking over Maggi and Parle’s positions from the All India list. The BFSI category sees LIC in first rank in North as well as All India, but ICICI (as a diversified finance brand) move up to second place in North, displacing SBI in second position from the All India list.

Brand Trust in impacted telecom brands to be severe: Trust Research Advisory

India, 3rd February 2012: Telecom is important in India, and it keeps in the news one way or the other. Supreme Court’s recent order cancelling 122 licenses has indeed raised deep trust-related issues about the stakeholders involved in the troubled telecom brands. An interesting viewpoint is seen from the influencer-consumer point that is reflected in a study on Brand Trust conducted by Trust Research Advisory (TRA) from 15 cities and 2718 respondents. The research study titled “The Brand Trust Report (BTR), India Study, 2012”, compares Brand Trust on a proprietary 61-component matrix of TRA.

N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory, publishers of the BTR 2012 commented on the development and said, “The Indian telecom growth is nothing short of a revolution and this growth has invisibly but tangibly impacted the growth of business and social connections in India. In fact, telecom has left no life untouched. The recent Supreme Court judgment will definitely impact the consumers, but the bigger and deeper damage has been done to the trust that these brands evoke. The Brand Trust of the impacted brands is bound be severely affected.”  Unaffected by the recent troubles of the sector, the trust leaders in the mobile telephony have retained their last year’s leading ranks. Airtel (ranked 1st) continues to top the list, Vodafone ranks 2nd and Idea ranks 3rd in the list of 18 telephony brands that emerged in the search for India’s 1000 Most Trusted Brands.

The brands which feature among India’s 1000 Most Trusted Brands have had their licenses cancelled. The telecom category has a high Category Trust and the brands which feature include Uninor (BTR ranked 113th), Videocon (not ranked among telecom), S Tel (not ranked), Loop Telecom (BTR ranked 129th), Etisalat (not ranked), Sistema (not ranked), Idea (BTR ranked 18th) and Tata (Tata Docomo ranked 64th and Tata Indicom ranked 395th).

The Brand Trust ReportTM is priced at Rs. 10,000/- and is available in major stores and at the offices of Trust Research Advisory.

Nokia & Tata lead India’s Most Trusted second year in a row

Chandigarh tilts all tables. LG ranked most trusted in city, Cadbury’s 2nd, Ponds 3rd

Chandigarh, India, 19th January 2012: India has chosen – the much anticipated results of India’s Most Trusted Brands are out. Nokia and Tata have retained their first and second positions from last year as India’s top two Trusted Brands this year. Sony, the Japanese electronics leader, slipped to fifth position this year, outranked by the two aggressive Korean Chaebols, LG at 3rd position and Samsung at 4th position. Maruti Suzuki improves its position of last year by one notch and is India’s 6th Most Trusted Brand this year. Bajaj ranked 7th is a new entrant in this year’s top ten (last year it was ranked 12th); LIC and Airtel positions are unchanged from last year at 8th and 9th rank respectively. Reliance slips to 10th Most Trusted Brand this year (from sixth last year). The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2012 (BTR 2012), lists India’s 1000 Most Trusted Brands and was launched in the city today. The report, the result of a comprehensive primary research conducted on 61-components of trust – a proprietary tool of Trust Research Advisory. The research is conducted with 2718 ‘influencer’ respondents from 15 cities, generating more than 2 million data-points from 12000 hours of research.

However, Chandigarh’s choice of India’s 10 Most Trusted Brands totally different from rest-of-India. LG emerges as Chandigarh’s Most Trusted Brand followed in sequence by two rank outsiders, Cadbury’s at 2nd, and Ponds at 3rd position. Cadbury’s on an All-India basis is ranked 28th and Ponds 39th – showing some high regional preferences in the  city. The most surprising find of all is the inclusion of Shell at all India rank 118, ranked at 9th position by the city.

N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory, elaborated on nuances that Pune showed in the report and said, “The Brand Trust ReportTM maps the brand topography of India on the universal metric of Trust –a proxy for all the different experiences that any brand generates. Though sometimes being headquartered in the base city comes as a great advantage, in other cases, the proximity does reveal too much. There are six brands which are in the top ten of Chandigarh, which are not in the All India top 10 list, showing a very different trend in this city. Shell throws up a surprise jumping up from an All-India rank of 118 to 9th position in Chandigarh”.

Nokia Most Trusted Brand of North, LG second; Tata down to 6th

North India trusts Pepsi, Hero Honda, Levi’s and Honda much more than rest-of-India.

New Delhi, India, 17th January 2012: The Brand Trust ReportTM is out, and India has chosen. India’s top 3  trusted brands are Nokia, Tata and LG in that order. But North India has a mind of its own, and it has chosen differently. India’s most trusted brand Nokia is also North India’s most trusted. However, India’s 2nd ranked Tata, has been pushed down to 6th rank among trusted brands of North India. The other brands which have been given the thumbs down by North India include, Titan (All India rank 12th;  North India rank 31st), Vodafone (All India rank 17th; North India rank 32nd), Raymond (All India rank 21st;  North India rank 33rd)  and Hewlett Packard (All India rank 22nd;  North India rank 37th). The findings were a part of a study by Trust Research Advisory (a Comniscient Group Company) titled, The Brand Trust ReportTM, India Study, 2012, which has ranked 17000 unique brands on the basis of ‘trust’.

N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory, elaborated on nuances of the report and said, “The Brand Trust ReportTM maps the brand topography of India on the universal metric of Trust –a proxy for all the different experiences that any brand generates. The study is very subtle and distinctive regional preferences become visible depending on the cultural influences of the specific area. The seeming duality of ‘uniqueness and universality’ of Brand TrustTM can be understood with reference to our unique tastes in music, though general classifications of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ music are universal. Trust also follows the individual-collective principles similar to music.”

Demonstrating this, North India has also shown significantly greater trust on some brands as compared to rest-of-India. Pepsi (North India rank 8th; All India rank 16th), Hero Honda (North India rank 10th; All India rank 25th), and Levis (North India rank 14th; All India rank 47th) are more trusted by the North. This study was from 2718 ‘influencer’ respondents, of which the North India verdict was been taken from 712 respondents from 5 cities, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Indore. North respondents constituted 26% of the All-India survey which panned 15 Indian cities.

Chandramouli added, “Some surprises the North throws up are, Tata, one of India’s most respected brands, ranking second on trust nationally, is down to sixth rank in Delhi as well as the North zone. Each time a human engages with anything, the basis for all decisions is trust. Be it brands, other humans, or just ideas, one will react to them on the basis of the trust it generates. Last year was tumultuous for several brands, but those which focused on trust, have gained market-share, revenues and profits. On the other hand, the brands which have focused only on the latter, have invariably lost both. Focus on building trust and all else will follow automatically”.

Consistent delivery against every promise is the single biggest driver of trust for our brand. India’s Most Trusted Brands

Nokia maintains its position and is India’s Most Trusted Brand in 2012 as well. Nokia’s leading position in Brand TrustTM is despite the innumerable barbs that the brand has had to face globally and in India regarding its inability to introduce differentiated products in the wake of significant, strong competition from iPhone and other competitors. Yet, to add to Nokia’s crowning glory of being India’s Most Trusted Brand this year, is the fact that it maintains its lead by a significant 25% over the Second Most Trusted brand of BTR 2012 – Tata.
