ICICI and HDFC Bank knock trust of reigning giant SBI

Mumbai: 9th March, 2016: The Indian economy has struggled to gain the trust of customers lost by the words of policymakers that have not translated into action of borrowers. Despite this there is a sense of optimism that stems from the 23 out of 27 banks that have risen in trust ranks according to The Brand Trust Report 2016 launched by TRA (formerly Trust Research Advisory). The Indian multinational banking and financial services company ICICI Bank (All-India Rank 10) tops the list for the first time as India’s Most Trusted Bank. ICICI Bank leaps 38 ranks from its previous years’ ranking to beat the government-owned corporation – State Bank of India (All-India Rank 23) who reigned this sector for the past five years. Another astonishing fact is the giant leap of 329 ranks taken by HDFC Bank (All-India Rank 12), making it the 2nd Most Trusted bank and listing it in the All-India Top 20 Most Trusted Brands. A bank to watch out for is IDBI Bank with its consistently rising trust ranking every year from All-India Rank 208 in 2011 to All-India Rank 63 in 2016.

Commenting on this, N. Chandramouli, CEO, TRA stated, “This rising trust in banks is a lead indicator for business momentum. The banking sector has been trying to connect with the interests of their customers in order to garner trust. In this the private banks have gained great momentum over the State – owned SBI. On the contrary, SBI’s comparatively lower ranking this year calls for the bank to strengthen their communication strategy and get its brand act together. The ripple effects of this could help the PSU giant revitalize its trust.”

The other banks that feature among the top 10 banks are Kotak Mahindra Bank (All-India Rank 66), Yes Bank (All-India Rank 99), HSBC (All-India Rank 106), Axis Bank (All-India Rank 113), Punjab National Bank (All-India Rank 122) and Bank of India (All-India Rank 172). Whereas Axis Bank (All-India Rank 113), UCO Bank (All-India Rank 554), Union Bank of India (All-India Rank 643) and Standard Chartered (All-India Rank 946) have fallen in their All-India Rank.

These revelations are the result of The Brand Trust Report 2016, the sixth in its series. It is the result of comprehensive primary research conducted on the proprietary 61-Attribute Trust Matrix of TRA (formerly known as Trust Research Advisory). This year’s study involved 18,000 hours of fieldwork covering 2500 consumer-influencers across 16 cities in India and generated 6 million data-points and 20,000 unique brands from which the top 1000 brands have been listed in this year’s report. The 200 page, hardbound report is available for Rs. 14000/-.

Eight Gujarat Brands Most Trusted in India

Ahmedabad, India, 9th March, 2016: A recently released study by Mumbai-based TRA (formerly Trust Research Advisory) The Brand Trust Report, India Study has been released for 2016. The report features eight category leaders from Gujarat. AMUL (All India 41st Rank), the pride of Gujarat, has been listed as India’s Most Trusted Dairy-Diversified (F&B) brand. It also holds its pride by being the only reigning brand in the Butter Sub-Category, bringing home ‘The taste of India’. Fogg (All India 67th Rank) leads in the Deo/Perfume Category followed by Axe and Wildstone. Sintex (All-India 214th Rank) leads as India’s Most Trusted Brand in the Manufacturing-Diversified Category. While Astral Pipes (All India 870th Rank) is the Most Trusted Brand in Pipes Category. Ajanta (All India 282th Rank) is a forerunner in the Home Care Category and correspondingly is the leader in the Clocks Sub-Category. Yet another brand from the region, Symphony (All-India 579th Rank) has been ranked as the Most Trusted Brand in the Coolers Sub–Category of the Durable list.

Gujarat’s love for food is reflected in the number of brands in the F&B Category. This has subsequently boosted the ratings of the Category and has made it the largest in Gujarat. Balaji (All India 124th Rank) is the Most Trusted brand in Packaged Snacks Category followed by Haldirams and Lays. Vadilal (All-India 277th Rank) ice cream is India’s Most Trusted ice cream brand and is followed by Havmor, Creambell among others.

“Gujarat brands often surprise giving national leaders. Its giant brand Amul though still a category leader, has slid down 29 ranks in the All India rank. Also Fogg as a brand is seen to rise steadily for the past four years. The pro-active and walk-the-talk approach of the region truly represents the future of India and epitomizes development in its complete strength.” said N. Chandramouli, CEO, TRA.

These revelations were a result of The Brand Trust Report, India Study – 2016, published by TRA (formerly Trust Research Advisory) a leading research organization dedicated to understanding and simplifying concepts related to Trust.

e-Brands Face Trust Shuffle: Brand Trust Report Google leads for fifth year; Facebook falls; Twitter misses the bus

Mumbai. 12th March, 2015: For the fifth consecutive year, Google, the American multinational specializing in internet-related services and products has been declared the Most Trusted Internet Brand by The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2015.Amazon, the online shopping portal, saw a new appearance in the 2015 trust rankings coming in at 146th rank overall and 2nd rank in the Internet category. Snapdeal grabbed the third position in the Internet category jumping 917 ranks to 174thrank across India. The online shopping portals increasing popularity indicate a rising usage of online shopping as a definitive medium of shopping, given its convenience and cost advantages. Flipkart rose nearly 900 ranks to overall rank 212nd. This rising popularity however does not manifest in other internet related categories – a startling example being the social networking website Facebook, which sees a decline of 12 ranks in 2015.

These revelations were a result of The Brand Trust Report, India Study – 2015, the fifth in its series, published by TRA (formerly known as Trust Research Advisory), a leading research organization dedicated to brand analytics. This year’s study involved 13000 hours of fieldwork covering 2373 consumer-influencers across 16 cities in India and generated 5 million datapoints and 19,000 unique brands from which the top 1000 brands have been listed in this year’s report. The 190 page, hardbound report is available for Rs. 14000/-.

Commenting on this sudden flurry of activity in the internet category, N. Chandramouli, CEO, TRA stated, “The medium of internet is completely disruptive and it not surprising that the e-brands see upheavals in trust also. Something new is happening all the time and engaging consumers has never been so challenging as well as exciting before this. Internet brands today need to be very careful given that there are online conversations happening beyond the knowledge and control of the brand. There is always something new happening. This year there are some new entrants to the trust list in the internet category such as RedBus.in in Online bus booking, Zivame in Online lingerie store and Hopscotch.in in Online baby products.”

Notable mention is the 592 rank fall that is seen by Yahoo, a brand once the closest competition to Google. Wechat and Line, social networking apps too have not made an impact while the only surviving brand in the category WhatsApp falls by 200 ranks. Social media platform Twitter is a no-show in this year’s listings.

It is interesting to note that of the 31 brands listed in Internet category in 2014 only 13 brands have been able to make it to the top 1000. Also an additional 7 new entrants in the category draw up the total number to 20 internet brands, moving away from the trend of the growth of Internet related brands each year.

LIC is most trusted BFSI brand. SBI tops banks sub-category.

ICICI gets two silvers: ICICI Bank & ICICI Pru Life stand 2nd among Banks and Insurance

India, 23rd January 2012: Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), the country’s biggest insurer, has also emerged as the country’s most trusted brand in the BFSI sector, as per the research conducted by The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2012. LIC was ranked 8th among 17000 brands studied in the brand and the BFSI category had 70 brands listed. LIC leads the State Bank of India (SBI) ranked 2nd in the BFSI sector by 56% on the Brand Trust Index, Trust Research Advisory’s unique metric for measuring Brand Trust.

State Bank of India is also the Most Trusted Bank and at an All-India rank 19th. ICICI’s flagship brand, ICICI Bank ranked the 2nd most trusted bank in the country among 33 listed. Among insurance brands, ICICI Prudential Life was ranked 2nd after LIC. The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2012 (BTR 2012), lists India’s 1000 Most Trusted Brands  and is the result of a comprehensive primary research conducted on 61-components of trust – a proprietary tool of Trust Research Advisory. The research is conducted with 2718 ‘influencer’ respondents from 15 cities, generating more than 2 million datapoints from 12000 hours of research.

Among the Banks sub-category, after SBI and ICICI Bank, HSBC comes 3rd, Axis Bank is 4th and IDBI Bank is ranked as the 5th most trusted bank in India. Among Insurance brands, after LIC and ICICI Prudential ranks 3rd, followed by Tata AIG at 4th and Bajaj Allianz ranks 5th most trusted insurance brand in India.

N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory, marked this preference for State-owned brands in BFSI category and said, “Both LIC and SBI have ranked first and second in the BFSI sector for two years consecutively. Apart from the omnipresence of these two institutions, the sovereign backing is a clear advantage that helps generate greater trust. Two ICICI brands get the trust-vote of India and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance is the 2nd most trusted insurance brand, and ICICI Bank comes second among banks. What is significant is that ICICI Bank is only 18% behind SBI in terms in Brand Trust Index.”

LG is the most trusted in Kolkata, followed by Sony and Adidas. Nokia down to 6th, Tata to 8th position in the Eastern Capital.

Adidas, Puma, Hewlett Packard & Onida make new entry in Kolkata’s 10 most trusted

Kolkata, India, 20th January 2012: India has chosen – the much anticipated results of India’s Most Trusted Brands are out. Nokia and Tata have retained their first and second positions from last year as India’s top two Trusted Brands this year. Sony, the Japanese electronics leader, slipped to fifth position this year, outranked by the two aggressive Korean Chaebols, LG at 3rd position and Samsung at 4th position. The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2012 (BTR 2012), lists India’s 1000 Most Trusted Brands and was launched in the city today. The report, the result of a comprehensive primary research conducted on 61-components of trust – a proprietary tool of Trust Research Advisory. The research is conducted with 2718 ‘influencer’ respondents from 15 cities, generating more than 2 million data-points from 12000 hours of research.

However, Kolkata has proved that it has a unique mind of its own with five new entrants into the city’s trusted list. LG emerges as Kolkata’s most trusted brand. This is followed by Sony ranked 2nd and Adidas as the city’s 3rd most trusted brand. Samsung at 4th rank is closely followed by Puma which makes a new entry at 5th position in Kolkata’s trust list. The most trusted brand across India, Nokia, is pushed down to 6th rank in Kolkata, and three new brands make an entry Hewlett Packard 7th, Onida  at 9th. BMW makes a surprise entry as the 10th most trusted brand of the city, showing the growing aspirations of Kolkata.

The city’s trust on Tata, the pride of the East, has taken a significant beating and the brand has been rated as the 8th most trusted brand in Kolkata. N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory commented on this finding and said, “The only explanation for Tata’s trust dip seems to be that Kolkata’s citizenry may have been significantly affected after Nano’s departure from West Bengal.”

N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory, elaborated the Chennai difference and said, “The Brand Trust ReportTM ranks brands Trust which can be a proxy for all brands’ experiences. India is a mosaic and South and North, East and West are as different as chutney is to cheddar. This study also shows that Kolkata’s preferences, nuances and cultural perceptions are extremely different from the rest of the country. When brands seek to reach out to stakeholders in India, to succeed they must address these vastly different regional preferences and choices.”

Of the 2718 respondents in 15 cities across India, Kolkata had 298 (11%) respondents. The other cities that were targeted in this study include Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Pune, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Jaipur, Kochi, Indore, and Coimbatore. All respondents were from the SEC-A segment.

The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2012, priced at Rs. 10000 (Rupees Ten Thousand Only), is available across major book stores, online book stores and TRA offices.

Nokia & Tata lead India’s Most Trusted second year in a row

Chandigarh tilts all tables. LG ranked most trusted in city, Cadbury’s 2nd, Ponds 3rd

Chandigarh, India, 19th January 2012: India has chosen – the much anticipated results of India’s Most Trusted Brands are out. Maruti Suzuki improves its position of last year by one notch and is India’s 6th Most Trusted Brand this year. Bajaj ranked 7th is a new entrant in this year’s top ten (last year it was ranked 12th); LIC and Airtel positions are unchanged from last year at 8th and 9th rank respectively. Reliance slips to 10th Most Trusted Brand this year (from sixth last year).

However, Chandigarh’s choice of India’s 10 Most Trusted Brands totally different from rest-of-India. LG emerges as Chandigarh’s Most Trusted Brand followed in sequence by two rank outsiders, Cadbury’s at 2nd, and Ponds at 3rd position. Cadbury’s on an All-India basis is ranked 28th and Ponds 39th – showing some high regional preferences in the  city. The most surprising find of all is the inclusion of Shell at all India rank 118, ranked at 9th position by the city.

N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory, elaborated on nuances that Pune showed in the report and said, “The Brand Trust ReportTM maps the brand topography of India on the universal metric of Trust –a proxy for all the different experiences that any brand generates. Though sometimes being headquartered in the base city comes as a great advantage, in other cases, the proximity does reveal too much. There are six brands which are in the top ten of Chandigarh, which are not in the All India top 10 list, showing a very different trend in this city. Shell throws up a surprise jumping up from an All-India rank of 118 to 9th position in Chandigarh”.

The report, priced at Rs. 10000 (Rupees Ten Thousand Only) is available across major book stores, online book stores and TRA offices.

India’s Most Trusted Brands

Nokia maintains its position and is India’s Most Trusted Brand in 2012 as well. Nokia’s leading position in Brand TrustTM is despite the innumerable barbs that the brand has had to face globally and in India regarding its inability to introduce differentiated products in the wake of significant, strong competition from iPhone and other competitors. Yet, to add to Nokia’s crowning glory of being India’s Most Trusted Brand this year, is the fact that it maintains its lead by a significant 25% over the Second Most Trusted brand of BTR 2012 – Tata.
